Abstract
Database performance indicators have traditonally been cpu, memory and physical io. These three parameters
can often describe behaviour which is indicative of specific performance problems, for individual tasks
running in the SQLServer or any other machine environment, or for the machine as a whole. While the native
utilities of SQLServer provide for operational access to this information in a realtime situation, often
it is not the actual stats which are important, but their rate of change. Capturing the rate of change
of system processes and programs over time permits the analysis of the stats environment.
Presentation Modes
In a separate section we have examined the provision of performance
related statistics through online program services.
In this section we present the delivery method of this type of information through specialised
programs capable of being parameter configurable according to the nature of the performance
problems being researched and investigated.
