This website is dedicated to those who perceive themselves to be the students of life. Essentially the website represents my research notes and collections of resources on various subject matters, collated and noted over the years.

My belief systems are very primitive and simple and attempt as much as possible to mirror the natural systems that I perceive to be in place about us, and within us.

My sojourn through and in the Himalayan foothills, and across many of the mountain ranges in Europe and the British Isles, in my early years provided me with a perspective for which I am eternally grateful. Perhaps it is because the mountain folk dwell closer to the cosmic aether, perhaps it is simply because it is supremely beautiful and quiet, at times, up there, under the same sky, but upon the roof of the world.

How can we bring this peace and goodwill of the mountain nature back from the heights, and distribute it to the world? We must publish tidings of peace, and the stories told first-hand by all great souls, while they are yet with us.

Simpy put, this is what mountainman.com.au is all about.

• [1952] - Born PRF Brown (Natural Professor) on Empire Day in Sydney, Australia
  
• [1959] - Taught to surf by Fred Whitehead (Grandfather) - Manly Beach
  
• [1960] - Walk along the old clear Burnt Bridge Creek to Seaforth Primary School
  
• [1966] - First Drumset
  
• [1967] - Bronze Cross, Surf Life Saving {BCSLS} - John Mills - Freshwater Surf Club
  
• [1968] - First SurfBoard - Mal (1950 vintage)
  
• [1969] - Rock and Roll Drummer in a resident Local Band - {{{ ... Savannah ... }}} - Red Ned's Wine Bar, Pittwater Rd, Manly
  
• [1970] - HSC - North Sydney Boys' High (5 Level I passes) + University scholarship.
  
• [1971] - Sydney University - First Year Electrical Engineering student but taking the full range of Mathematics (Pure, Applied and Statistical) at the Honors level, with Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science. Reasonably good 1st Year Pass
  
• [1972] - Sydney University - Second Year Drop_Out ... leaving during the final examinations - to become a full-time surfer and a traveller, finally an escapee from academia.
  
• [1973] - Equivalent final (3rd) year of study - Remotely dwelling in a tent (1 year): 1 Km up the beach at Crescent Head, NSW coast - Solitude, contemplation, full-on surfing, the study of various texts by the light of the lamp, and the aknowledgement of the local ecologies. An important graduation for me!
  
• [1974] - Return to civilisation, and the first of 17 years as a cabbie on the nightshift - 2,000,000 kms covered in all.

• [1976] - The journey over the Great Water - Travel through SE Asia starting at Bali, then Java, Sumatra, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the journey to the hill tribes at the northern border. Westward again into Nepal and into the Himalayas. Journey by foot out to Everest in the East, and then around the Annapurna Ranges in the west.

• [1977] - South out of the Roof of the World through Rishikesh and into India for 3 months, then continue westward overland and up through the Kyber Pass and Afganistan (just prior to the Russian invasion) into the lands of Greece and the middleEarth of the Mediteranean. Northwest through much of Switzerland and then passed the white cliffs and to the ancient city of London. Walk the ancient tracks to Oxford, and thence into Wales where in the Forest of Dean by the River Wye experienced the age-old experience of dwelling in a cave. Inspired to journey west and across the Irish Sea to the Emerald Isle resting in the very deep south on an island called Cape Clear, beneath Mt. Gabriel. Summer work for 3 months in the farms, the hay and the bog. Up through the north of England and into the highlands of Scotland and its wild coasts, and then return eastwards to the green fields of France. Crossing on foot the Pyrenees into Spain, and then on foot over the Sierra Nevada to the south and into Portugal, then Italy and Florence where, after being under the stars for such a long time, the impending cold of winter drove me into the Youth Hostels. A 19 day vow of silence establishes some sense of re-emergent conversation.

• [1978] - Return to Australia and employment with Australia Post, at the Sydney GPO.
  
• [1979] - Still surfing ... Complete 18 months of full-on work and return to Doolin, County Clare, Ireland to work during my holidays on the farm for 3 months. Return to Australia and commence employment as a public service clerk with the Dept. Social Security (DSS) - which was to last over 10 years. First marraige at Christmas, already with first son Jonathan born October 1977.
  
• [1980] - Daughter Jessica born October. Resolve to return to studies - TAFE Course - Accountancy Certificate
  
• [1981] - Supervisory experience commences within public service, Officer-In-Charge of various DSS Regional Office Sections (Pensions/Benefits/etc). Son Daniel born in December and the commencement of martial arts training - TKD (Colin Handley), KB (Adam Watt)
  
• [1982] - TAFE Course - Data Processing Certificate
• [1984] - Purchace PC (Microbee) - Creation of SURFSUMS software for Primary schools.
  
• [1985] - Sideways movement within Social Security Dept from the benefits/pensions side to the computer systems side following the implemention of Stratplan - the DSS computerisation inititiative. Full training provided on the operations and administration of Wang (Midrange) Computers by DSS. Now placed and employed in the computer industry as a Regional Systems Administrator. • [1989] - Still surfing ... mainly Newport, the pool and path (reef)
